How I Filmed A 50 State Documentary And Got It on Amazon, with Zero Film Experience
Here’s a quick story about me crying, then laughing, then crying again (LOL).
As many of you know (and were in attendance at!!), the American Happiness documentary premiered in February of 2021.
Back in early 2021, I started to research how to get the documentary on platforms that would allow for as many people as possible to watch it.
My goal was to get on Amazon.
Seems simple enough, right?
Turns out, it’s a more interesting + laborious process than you may think - and you need to go through a film distributor who pitches it to platforms, has certain requirements, etc.
After about a year of my distributor working to get it on there with no luck, I released any type of expectation/anticipation and moved on.
Then one day recently, I got an intuitive hit to log in to the film distributor’s platform.
OMG.
The film had been delivered to AMAZON.
I cried.
I immediately went to go search for it on Amazon…and nothing showed up
I freaked out for a moment (including a weird laugh out loud — emotions went from high to low reallll quick haha) and then reached out to the distributor, who contacted Amazon to see what was up.
Turns out there was some glitch in their system, and a week later —
THERE. IT. WAS.
I cried again.
(LOL)
So I am so excited to announce that…
And I also wanted to share a reminder that all of this came from ONE tiny idea I had on my couch in July of 2018.
I didn’t “have” the experience, money, or skillset.
It was created.
…what’s your ONE idea that you’ve been sitting on? Maybe it’s time to take action and start creating
If you’re able to rent it and leave a 5 star review - I would be SO grateful. (If you have Amazon Prime, it should be $0 to do so).
Here is the link that takes you to it.
